Heritage Open Days have become a very important part of the heritage calendar giving access for everyone to England’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. Properties that are either not usually open, or would normally charge an entrance fee open their doors for free and events are organised especially for this weekend.

Burnley - a town amidst the pennines

Burnley is a special place to visit. At the heart of Pennine Lancashire, historic houses and industrial heritage sit along side more quirky attractions such as a working forge and a brewery. Fun and exciting events take place all year, look out for Burnley Balloon Festival, Heritage Open Days or the Classic Car Show as well as over 150 other galas, fairs, exhibitions and festivals.

You can shop for bargains on the market or in our mill shops; find the latest high street fashions in the modern town centre stores then have relaxing drink or bite to eat in one of the trendy coffee shops along the high street.

The South Pennines countryside is a haven for wildlife; is great for walkers, horse riders and cyclists and there is an abundance of waterways - canal, rivers, reservoirs and lakes where you can do anything from fishing to windsurfing. The amazing panopticon high on the moors above Burnley has wonderful views over the town from Pendle Hill to Worsthorne Moor with Padiham and the surrounding villages in the distance.

Whatever your reason for coming to Burnley you will have plenty to see and do whether you are here for the day, a short break or longer you will find a warm and friendly welcome, a choice of places to stay, and good restaurants and cafes serving all kinds of tempting meals.

Burnley has lovely countryside and friendly people all waiting to welcome you to one of Lancashire's best kept secrets.
