Burnley Walking Festival

3rd–5th May 2008

Welcome to the web pages for Burnley’s first walking festival we hope you will come along and join us as we take you on a journey where you can discover this hidden part of Lancashire. Wild moorland, wooded glens, historic townscapes, wildlife, windmills and stunning works of art can all be found on the walks on offer over this May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

The festival celebrates the re-launch of the Burnley Way, a 40-mile circular walk around the borough. Each of the walks offered over this weekend either take in part of the Burnley Way or are very close by. A new set of Burnley Way leaflets will be available from 3rd May 2008, please ask your guide for copies if you would like to try the walk for yourself. The walk is split into six sections each of which start and finish on a public transport route and they can be walked seperately or as a whole if you are very fit and energetic.

Come along and enjoy this exciting weekend with us, you can choose to join any of the walks below (please choose carefully as some of the walks are more strenuous than others), they are all free and everybody is welcome.

All the walks are led by experienced walkers or guides who know the area very well, you may learn about the history of the town or the wildlife around, about the plants and trees along your walk or how the people shaped the area, whatever you learn, whatever you see we hope you enjoy the walking festival and go home with good memories of Burnley.
