Join us to find out about the wildlife and natural history of Towneley Park. The largest park in Burnley, Towneley’s 247 acres include ancient and new woodland, stunning parkland, playing fields, golf courses and the River Brun.
An abundance of mammals, birds and plantlife share this space with its human visitors. Common mammals such as grey squirrels, hedgehogs and rabbits may be easier to spot than roe deer or the wily fox but sign of them are all around you.
Mandarin Ducks, Canada Geese and Herons have all been spotted in the park along with amphibians and insects enjoying their watery home in the rivers and ponds. Wild garlic and bluebells put on a show in the spring-time and as you wander around the park you will see many of the trees and flowers just starting to bloom as the weather warms up.
This walk is suitable for most people to enjoy although in places the ground can be uneven so please wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate to the weather.
