Museum of Local History

The Museum of Local History is located in the brew house next to the hall; here you can take a fascinating step back in time to see Pennyfarthings and bone-shakers parked on the cobbles in front of quaint old fashioned shop fronts, back street pubs, cobblers workshops and tea merchants. Guess what the old tools and equipment on display were used for; learn about the knocker-up who got the workers out of bed in the mornings; see how your great grandma did the washing and find out about the cotton mills, weaving sheds and coal mines that once dominated the town.
